Bee & Honey Café in Pyeongtaek

Ever since we moved to South Korea about six weeks ago, we’ve been told we need to visit the Bee & Honey Café and do the hike to Maansan Mountain. So, one Saturday, in between sessions of General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we were ready for a break and to get out of the house for a bit. We loaded up the kids and drove the 15 minutes to Bee & Honey.

Bee & Honey Café in Pyeongtaek

I’d heard of the Bee & Honey Café a few times, but I still wasn’t sure exactly what we were walking into. But, like most things I’ve experienced here, I was not disappointed. The outside of the café is so cute and they have real beehives where they source some of their honey from. Inside there were multiple different kinds of honey that you could taste (my personal favorite was the wildflower honey) and bottles of honey you could purchase. And, as with any café, there were a bunch of different treats and drinks for purchase as well. The honeycomb ice cream is truly unique (yum!) and the cinnamon honey cake is to die for!

The front part of the café feels more like a small store – with all the bottles of honey and other goods to buy. But walk into the back dining area and it’s a whole different vibe entirely. Random décor items littered and entire wall of shelves and it was a sight for sure. All that to say, the only real way to describe this café is: CUTE!

Another thing that makes the Bee & Honey Café so fun? It’s right across the street from the trailhead to hike up to the top of Maansan Mountain. Brandon and I LOVE to hike and we hadn’t done any hiking since I arrived in South Korea. Hiking in South Korea is kind of a whole ordeal, and one that we hadn’t figured out up to this point. It was high time to change that. After seeing what the café had to offer, we made our way through the woods and up the mountain.

When we were getting our things packed to move to South Korea, I didn’t think far enough ahead to pack our baby carrier in our checked bags. And of course I am regretting that more than anything else. Hopefully we only have to survive about another month without all of our belongings – but it definitely has made life more interesting not having the baby carrier for Miss H. Nevertheless, H was a good sport on the hike. She honestly LOVES to walk, but didn’t mind being carried every now and again too. And the rest of the kids walked without any issues.

The whole hike was beautiful – not much different than many of the hikes we went on in the Pacific Northwest. It was surprisingly steep at times, but it was nothing we couldn’t handle with all five kids, so I’d consider it a very easy trail. It was also easy to follow, which is something that I always appreciate in a hiking trail. I have no desire to go blazing my own way through the forest.

If you’re living near Camp Humphreys, check out the Bee & Honey Café and the hike across the street. And make sure you get the cinnamon honey cake – you won’t regret it!

’til the next adventure…
