We’re having a flashback to more beautiful days, as we’ve had truly terrible air quality lately (as in, the AQI has been in the 300’s). I shared this on my Facebook when we went, and originally I WASN’T going to do a whole post on it. But then I realized that this is DEFINITELY something that I want to remember. And, as an avid reader of my own blog (I’m not too proud to admit that I often go back and read my own posts because… memories) I knew I’d have a good laugh each time future me comes across this post. And so, without further ado: here’s all about our visit to a toilet-themed café.
The Toilet-themed Café in Eumseong
Located in Eumseong, South Korea, Lavacro Bath Café is about an hour away from Pyeongtaek. We originally planned to go with friends, but then our household goods decided to show up three weeks earlier than we’d planned (YAY!) and so I had to cancel. I ended up just loading the kids up in the car and heading there a day earlier than we’d planned – as kind of a last-hoorah before the craziness of unpacking started. Like most places we’ve visited in South Korea, I wasn’t 100% sure I was headed to the right place until we actually pulled up and I saw the wall of toilets. But let me just make it easy on you (because, let’s be honest, you’re going to be adding this to your bucket list). If you copy EQ바스 LAVACRO cafe 라바크로카페 into Naver it’ll take you right to a large parking lot. There, you’ll see a wall of plain, unexciting white toilets (which is honestly a site all on its own). You’ll see a road lined with exhibits of other randomly decorated toilets and then the magical wall of colorful toilets. It was SO random. And honestly so freaking aesthetic.
Of course there are a lot of fun photo opportunities at this place. I mean, where else are you going to find colorfully painted toilets that double as planters? Or tables decorated with beautiful tiles… and toilets for the chairs? Only in Korea, folks. Only in Korea. So of course we took ALL the pictures and then went inside the café for some drinks and lunch. Their lattes (which are made using milk here and not coffee) were delightful and their pizza wasn’t half bad either. They didn’t have a HUGE selection of treats and such (which was disappointing because I LIVE for a good pastry) but let’s be honest: we weren’t there for the food. We were there for the toilets. (And yes, I did feel slightly uncomfortable typing that.)
All in all, this made a really fun and laid-back little trip. Would I go back? Probably not – at least, I wouldn’t drive an hour out of my way to go again. But I’m glad that we did. The kids thought it was hilarious and there were many immature jokes being made on the way to and from the café. If you find yourself in the area, go just for the laughs (and that golden bathroom because… what!?).
’til next time…
