Memorial Day was rainy, but warm. And since Brandon had to work, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to visit Pinnacle Land Arboretum in Asan – just 20 minutes away from Camp Humphreys. Brandon had no desire to go, but I’d wanted to check it out for a while. So once it stopped raining in the afternoon, I loaded up the five kids and we headed out to Pinnacle Land.
Pinnacle Land Arboretum
Pinnacle Land in Asan is a quaint garden with paths that wind up a small mountain and end at an observatory – complete with fantastic views and photo ops, as well as a gorgeous waterfall. Throughout the park there are more varieties of flower than you could count, multiple cafés, water fountains, and statues. In addition, there are animals to feed and pet (deer, goats, alpacas, chickens, and roosters), which was the favorite of all of my kids. Carrots were given to us upon entering the park (I’m unsure if they gave them as a gift or if they are normally included in the price – the woman who sold me the tickets didn’t speak any English) and there is hay available for purchase for the goats. The kids loved petting the goats and TRYING to pet the alpacas (who really did NOT want to be touched) and H kept saying “balk balk!” at the chickens, who seemed indifferent to her communications toward them.
Would it be weird to describe this place as other-worldly? Honestly though, I couldn’t tell if we had just stepped into an English garden or a completely different dimension. The whole park was beautiful – and that is the understatement of the century. There were flowers of all kinds and everything was so well taken care of. Almost everything was completely accessible with a stroller – although we did have to climb some stairs to get to the observatory – and there was so much to see.
The kids loved exploring every winding path they could – although it was a little touch-and-go for a bit when they noticed ice cream being served at one of the cafés and then that became ALL they could think about. But don’t worry – I did eventually buy each of them an ice cream, which had really been my plan all along anyway.
Honestly, this is one of those adventures that I don’t have much to say about, but I have about 200 pictures that I took. It’s hard to capture the sheer beauty of this place in pictures, but hopefully this post gives you a taste of what it looked like. It was obvious that great care had been taken in creating such an incredible, immersive place. It’s perfect for getting away from the bustle of life and just taking some time to soak in God’s beautiful, green Earth!
Were Pinnacle Land free to visit, we would be coming back again and again. However, it was a little on the pricy side to visit, which means it’s unlikely we will be back. Still, I’ve got 200 pictures to remember our visit by, and I know I’ll always look back at our visit with fondness!
’til next time…
