Riding the Zipline at Daecheon Beach

When my parents were in town last month, we wanted to experience a whole range of different things with them. But the weather was hot and humid beyond all reason for the entire time they were here. That wasn’t great for some of our activities, but it was PERFECT for our trip down to Daecheon Beach. If you’ve been hanging around here for a bit, you’ll know that we love the Boryeong and Daecheon Beach area and we’ve found ourselves coming back time and time again.

Zipline at Daecheon Beach

Daecheon Beach is located in Boryeong – home of the Boryeong Mud Festival and also the most incredible place to go paragliding. It’s about an hour and a half away from Camp Humphreys, which makes for a really easy day trip. And while the Yellow Sea isn’t exactly the “bluest” body of water, it’s one of our favorite beaches to go to – especially after beach season is finished and we have the entire beach almost completely to ourselves.

We took my parents to this particular beach for one main reason: we wanted to ride the zipline. While that was our purpose, we showed up unsure of how it was going to go. We assumed there would be weight limits and age restrictions, and some of us would have to sit out while others rode. But as it turned out, our entire group was able to ride – even the two-year-old!

They got us all hooked up to our harnesses and the jitters started. Poor E was feeling okay about the whole thing until they actually hooked him up to the zipline. There may or may not have been some tears – which quickly disappeared as soon as he started flying down the beach. It helped that he had his older sister right beside him to cheer him on. She’s the best!

Every single one of us loved the ride. It was just high enough and long enough to feel exciting – without crossing the line into terrifying. M just kept yelling “I love zip-linin’!” and she has asked me almost every day since when we can go again. We purchased the pictures that they took of all of us (although I missed getting a copy of the picture of my dad… so I’ll have him send me one later) and it makes for a fun keepsake from the experience.

Our other plan was to do the sky bike that is right by the zipline starting point. But because it was so hot and humid, none of us really felt like pedaling in the hot sun. Still, we hope to go back sometime soon now that summer is over to do the sky bike and experience that for ourselves! (See the bottom of the post for information on the sky bike.)

And of course we didn’t come all that way for a 30-second ride. We found a good spot on the beach, planted all of our stuff down, and then enjoyed cooling off in the water. We found tons of seashells (my mom LOVES shells and collects them everywhere she goes – and even SHE was impressed by how many huge, incredible shells she found). The kids loved looking for starfish and chasing the seagulls. And of course, H loved all the attention she was getting from the Ajummas.

Our time for beach days in Korea has drawn very quickly to a close (and I kind of wonder why we didn’t visit the beach more). In just a few months it’s going to be inappropriately cold on the Pen and we’ll be heading off on our next adventure across the Pacific. I’m grateful for all the beach days we’ve had during our time in Korea and I look forward to maybe someday coming back for more!

’til next time…

How to ride the zipline at Daecheon Beach

Directions & Parking: Paste 충남 보령시 해수욕장10길 79 into Naver or use this link to get to Zip Track Korea, the company that runs the zipline. Street parking close by may be available, but there are also many free lots in the area thanks to the annual Boryeong Mud Festival. We parked at lot number six which can be located using this link or by pasting 충남 보령시 신흑동 into Naver. Zip Track Korea is located at the far end of the beach (off to the right when you stand facing the ocean), so parking lot nine might be closer. You can access parking lot nine by using this link or by pasting 충남 보령시 해수욕장10길 96 into Naver.

Age & Weight Restrictions: We were told there were no age and weight restrictions for anyone over one year old. Heavier individuals have to ride alone, as opposed to riding side-by-side with somebody. Children under age seven are required to ride with an adult. Small children (ages four and younger) are required to sit on an adult’s lap for the ride. Everyone is securely fastened and we were all surprised at how safe the whole thing felt.

Amenities: There are bathrooms located in various places along Daecheon Beach. We usually try to settle in a place close to the bathrooms for convenience-sake. During the summer there are showers at some of the bathrooms. If you can’t find showers, there are some located at the campsite across the street from Parking Lot 6 that I linked above. There are convenience stores and restaurants galore, although most of the restaurants right by the beach seemed to be seafood – and I’m the only one in my family who cares even a little for fish. We usually bring our own food just to make things easy, but finding something to eat there isn’t too hard.
