Dodeoksan Suspension Bridge

Hello from Missouri! It’s been a whirlwind getting here and I’m still working on processing all of the stress this move brought. And although it’s good to be back in the United States, I’d be lying if I said we didn’t miss Korea. And so, as an ode to the amazing times we had, I’m getting back on the ol’ blog and catching up on all the Korea adventures I hadn’t posted about. So with that introduction out of the way, let’s get to it.

Dodeoksan Suspension Bridge in Gwangmyeong

When Brandon’s siblings were in town visiting, we took them over to Gwangmyeong Cave (which had been on my bucket list since before we moved to Korea) and while we were out that way, we figured it was time to check another suspension bridge off of the list (because if you’ve been here a while, you’ll remember that I have a thing for bridges). And, while this was far from my favorite of the suspension bridges that we crossed in Korea, it was definitely one of the more unique ones.

I can’t say I’d ever seen a bridge shaped quite like this one, and it made for a really fun experience for the kids – who were [very carefully] racing across different sides of the bridge. Because we visited in late November, everything was pretty bare. But, I can only imagine what the surrounding area will look like in the spring!

It’s hard to remember all of the details since it’s been about two months since our visit (wow… even I didn’t realize I was THAT behind), but it was a wonderful (albeit a little bit random) adventure for a mild, fall day. If you’re looking for more of a hike and some gorgeous views, make sure to go beyond the bridge and hike up to the summit of Dodeok Mountain. It’ll be worth the extra effort and you absolutely won’t regret it.

Stay tuned for the last few adventures of our time in Korea.

’til next time…

You’ll park in the free Dodeoksan Park Parking Lot and then it’s quite the trek up to the suspension bridge. As a general rule, follow the signs that say “Dodeoksan” (or 도덕산 in Hangeul) and you’ll find the bridge.
