I recently got back from one of my favorite places… Walt Disney World! If you know me well, you’ll know that I’m one of those weird Disney-Adults. I should probably feel some shame about it, but I absolutely do not. My idea of the perfect family vacation is going to be Disney every single time. Still, I’ve figured out ways to branch out some, and we’ve gotten to experience a lot more than Disney as a family. HOWEVER, when the opportunity to go to Disney World presented itself, you can bet I jumped right on that. My friend Marie was heading there with her three kids and she invited me along to help out. Even though her kids are older (her youngest is 9), having a second adult was helpful, so I selflessly took one for the team… I’m such a Saint. (Hopefully you can catch my sarcasm here.) Eventually I’ll be sharing tips and tricks for Disney parks and how to make it a magical experience – and not an absolutely exhausting mess – but for now, I’m sharing all about the yummy food and treats we had while at the parks! And so, without further ado, here is…
Everything I Ate at Walt Disney World (with ratings)
MAGIC KINGDOM
Citrus-Chipotle Chicken Rice Bowl
Citrus-Chipotle Chicken Rice Bowl
Don’t let the messy presentation (and poor photography by yours truly) fool you. This rice bowl was something that I would like to consume every single day of my life. The chicken was BOMB and despite seeming like a small portion, it filled me up (and then some).

Sweet Corn Mousse
No, this isn’t corn-on-the-cob… it’s a mousse molded to LOOK like corn-on-the-cob. This sweet corn mousse (yes, it is made of corn, and YES there are kernels in it) is the weirdest thing I have ever tried and absolutely loved. It’s topped with white chocolate drizzle and tart raspberry powder and you’ll be dreaming about it for days after.

Pineapple Float (Dole Whip)
If you didn’t have Dole Whip, did you even go to Disney? This classic dessert is served in a variety of ways, including just soft-serve, on a pineapple upside-down cake, or, in my favorite way, as a float! Cool off during those hot Florida days with soft-serve sitting atop delicious, tangy pineapple juice! You won’t regret treating yourself to this classic!

The Grey Stuff Cupcake
The Grey Stuff Cupcake
The first of the Magic Kingdom Treats that was a bit of a letdown. Since Beauty and the Beast has always been a personal favorite, when I heard of The Grey Stuff Cupcake, you KNOW I had to try it out. This chocolate cupcake is topped with cookies ‘n cream buttercream (that resembles the “grey stuff” from “Be Our Guest”) and crispy pearl rounds. It’s fun to look at, but less fun to eat. It wasn’t disgusting by any means, but it was simply a cupcake, and nothing more. If you love buttercream (I don’t) then this treat would be for you.

Turkey Leg
Turkey Leg
Another must eat every time I go to Disney. I grew up on these bad boys and they have never disappointed. I don’t know what they do to these turkey legs, but my guess is that they inject them with magic and pixie dust because they are OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing. Never have you ever had a smoked turkey leg that is so delicious and moist (I’m only a little sorry for using that word) and, honestly, reasonably priced compared to turkey legs at other parks (I’m looking at you, Six Flags St. Louis!). The next time you’re at Magic Kingdom, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy my absolute favorite treat!

Carbon Freeze
Carbon Freeze
Buckle up and get ready to transport yourself straight out of this galaxy and into the world of Star Wars with this wild (non alcoholic) drink. We actually entered Oga’s Cantina thinking we were heading into a restaurant, only to find that we were actually in a bar (or, as Marie’s daughter called it, a “drinks-only restaurant”). Our disappointment was short lived because the atmosphere was something straight out of the movies. I’m not a big Star Wars fan (I’ll give you a moment to boo at your screen…) but even I was a fan of this place. The bartender recommended the Carbon Freeze drink and once it arrived, we could see why. This drink combines lemon-lime, strawberry, blueberry, and green apple “popping pearls” to make a delightfully fruity flavor. And to make it even better, a compartment in the bottom of the glass holds dry ice, which makes the entire drink bubble and the boba balls bounce.
If you’re hoping to experience Oga’s Cantina yourself, advance reservations are recommended, but not required. We were able to get in with only a 5-minute wait without any reservation.

Batuuan Beef and Crispy Topato
Batuuan Beef and Crispy Topato
Truthfully, I didn’t fully know what I was ordering when I got this. I had no idea what Topato was, until a quick Google search (literally three minutes ago) revealed to me that it is, in fact, a fake food in the Star Wars Universe. You learn something new every day. Still, this beef-stew type dish is something I’m still dreaming about to this day. The beef is melt-in-your-mouth and the veggies were cooked to perfection. This dish is *chef’s kiss*.

Black Spire Mousse
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge really went hard on all the fake foods. This Black Spire Mousse is said to be “White chocolate jogan fruit mousse.” And if you haven’t heard of jogan fruit before, it’s because, much like topato, it doesn’t actually exist. So truthfully I have no idea what this mousse was actually flavored with. Still, it was delicious and the best mousse I had the entire trip. It sits on a brownie and is paired with pineapple cream, blue milk sauce, a beautiful purple hibiscus sponge, and a chocolate black spire coin.

Moof Juice
The description is what got me for this one. It seemed simple enough: Fruit punch, orange, and pineapple. But the last ingredient listed was chipotle pineapple… and that had me intrigued. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t the basic juice that I got. Maybe I’d been hoping for a subtle spice from the chipotle, but this drink really just tasted like a few fruit juices mixed together. Was it bad? Not by any means. Was it special in any way? No. Was it worth the $6 for it? No.

Funnel Cake with Cookies ‘n Cream and Soft-Serve Vanilla Ice Cream
Cookies ‘n Cream Funnel Cake
Is there really any treat as basic as a funnel cake? They are everything that is right with fair, carnival, or amusement park food. Add onto it a dollop of soft-serve, some cute little Oreo Mickey Mouse ears, and sprinkle it with powdered sugar and there really isn’t anything to dislike about it. This treat was the perfect mid-day snack to eat while waiting in a 70-minute line for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Yes, I did eat the whole thing. Yes, I felt like crap after. Yes, it was completely worth it.

This salad was fine. Just fine. It had a decent spice to it, and it was the perfect dinner on a day when I had eaten WAY too much. I needed something a little lighter, and the Southwest Salad with Chicken provided that for me. Still, I wasn’t overly impressed, especially when compared to the salad I had at Animal Kingdom. Still, Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios offers a decent variety of meals. I’ve eaten there during prior Disney trips and it rarely disappoints.

Totchos
Oh Totchos (aka Tater Tot Nachos)… probably the food I was looking forward to trying the MOST… only to be kind of let down. Maybe it was because I was exhausted beyond all reason (and honestly a little grumpy) by the time we stopped at Woody’s Lunchbox, but this dish absolutely did not live up to the hype it was given online. But, of course, bloggers exaggerate just about everything, so I guess I can’t blame them too much. In the end, I was glad I tried it, but next time I’ll go for the BBQ Brisket Melt at the same restaurant which I hear is VERY delicious.

Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl
When looking back at the menu, this meal confused me because I couldn’t find a salad anywhere. Then I remembered that at this particular restaurant, there were different bases to choose from. If my memory is correct, you can choose rice, noodles, or lettuce. Looking for something a little lighter that day, I chose lettuce and I was not mad about it. The chicken on this salad was amazing, the dressing was incredible, and the boba was an odd and very welcome addition that really brought this to the next level.

I saw this dessert online and new that if I happened to find the restaurant it was in, I HAD to try it. And, truthfully, I did like it. Pongu Lumpia & Night Blossom
Pongu Lumpia & Night Blossom
Ugh. Pongu Lumpia was one of the foods I was most excited to try because I LOVE me some lumpia (in case you didn’t know, lumpia is a Filipino spring roll… and they are delicious). To be fair, the flavor of it was amazing. It has a pineapple cream cheese filling and you really can’t go wrong with the flavors. But what brought the whole thing down? The texture. One of my favorite things about spring rolls is their crispy exterior. But, presumably because of the nature of the filling here, the entire outside was soft, leading the whole thing to be a soggy mess. So the flavor is a 8/10, but the texture was a 0/10.
And then there was the Night Blossom which I honestly just bought because it looked fun in the picture. This apple and desert pear frozen limeade with boba balls looks fun and exciting, but it wasn’t overly exciting to drink. It was fine, and if I’d gotten it earlier in the day when I was dying from the heat, I probably would have liked it more. Still, it was worth a try and maybe on a hotter day I’d like it more.

Yeti Sundae
Yeti Sundae
The Yeti Sundae is advertised as chocolate and vanilla soft-serve, topped with blue cake crumbs, sugar, sweet snowflakes, and a chocolate yeti image. And most of those elements were there… except the blue cake crumbs. Instead there was an overabundance of those blue crystal sprinkles. Truthfully, I don’t know that it would have made much of a difference if there HAD been cake crumbs. The soft-serve was delicious (as is expected) and I didn’t regret the purchase. Besides, as we were walking through Animal Kingdom, we had multiple people stop to ask us where we got the sundaes, so clearly the ice cream truck was doing something right.

Croissant Donut
Two words: Croissant. Donut. Can it get any more perfect than that? (Okay, okay, the turkey leg really surpassed the croissant donut, but we’ve moved on from that.) School Bread
A Norwegian specialty (supposedly – I’ve never been to Norway), school bread is made from a sweet roll (which seemed to contain a good amount of cinnamon), filled with custard, and dipped in coconut. It really was a unique treat and one that I thoroughly enjoyed eating. I can’t give it FULL points (I mean, it’s going up against turkey legs and funnel cakes…), but I’d buy it again if given the chance.

Norwegian Kringla
Hopefully I don’t offend anyone with this review, but I should probably just throw out there that this is my OPINION and nothing more. I’m not a foodie – I’m just a lady with a poodle, a bunch of kids, and a blog. But this pastry was really not my favorite. To be fair, what I thought I was ordering was a Scandinavian Kringler, which my friend brought me this last Christmas. That is a flaky, almondy, melt-in-your-mouth pastry that regularly occupies my dreams. This Kringla, on the other hand, was more pretzel-like, and it also contained raisins (which I don’t like). I actually couldn’t taste the raisins, but the bread itself was quite dry. I think this experience was more me ordering something thinking it was something else, than the pastry actually being terrible.

Strawberry Gelato
If you feel like this gelato doesn’t look quite right, you aren’t alone. When they put this strawberry gelato in front of me, I was questioning what was going on too. Still, I’m not sure what happened and why it was so runny, but honestly it didn’t matter because this gelato was AMAZING. The flavor was so good and so accurate to the gelato that I ate while in Italy (cue pretentiousness) as a teenager. The flavor was good enough that I was able to easily overlook the runny texture. Maybe there was an issue with their freezers? We may never know.

I’m going to get pretentious here again… you have been warned. During my time in Europe as a teenager, I have fond memories of going to a little pub in London and enjoying a delicious dinner of classic British fish and chips. So, you can imagine how absolutely chuffed to bits I was to find that the UK in World Showcase had a proper fish and chips shop right by the water. It was delicious and authentic. Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
*No pictures were taken of the food we ate at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. I wish I had a good excuse, but it was really just that I forgot.
The last thing on this list (and by far the most expensive) was our experience with the Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. Marie’s youngest daughter was DYING to do some kind of character dining experience SPECIFICALLY with princesses. There were no openings on our day at Epcot, but we kept checking back on the app until an opening appeared at 7:00pm. Her daughter was THRILLED we were going to have the experience and it didn’t disappoint. Throughout the dinner, five different princesses come and visit at each table. They sign autographs, take pictures, and spend some time with the kids. All while we enjoy a delicious dinner fit for royalty. And I will say, the food was DELICIOUS. Was the food alone worth the cost? I don’t think so. But the excitement from that little girl at seeing all the princesses made it MORE worth it.

So there you have it, everything I ate during the five days I spent at Walt Disney World. Overall, I’ve always been impressed with the food at Disney. Especially when we have eaten at more sit-down restaurants, the food is incredible. But even the quick-service restaurants offer a good variety of options. Truly, there’s something for everyone on each menu. Make sure to ask for allergy menus, or for their plant-based options – they have so many choices to fit all different dietary preferences or needs.
’til next time…
